Platinum Print will accept files in Microsoft Word, however to avoid additional artwork costs we would appreciate it if you could read and adhere to the following guidelines when supplying your artwork.
Please ensure:
The resolution of colour pictures or clip art is 400dpi or higher.
Please use uncompressed tiff or eps image files - not low resolution jpeg, bmp or gif.
Before you start your design, you need to consider If your artwork requires BLEED (this refers to any element of your design which needs to run right to the edge of your page). If it does you will need to set the page size 3mm bigger round all edges. (e.g.with an A4 document you'd need to set your 'paper size' to 21.6cm x 30.3cm and the elements in your design which BLEED will need to run to the edge of this larger size). The extra 3mm will be trimmed off, but it is a safeguard so you don't get any 'white' edges where solid colour needs to go right to the edge.
CMYK vs. RGB - explained
When printing a document in colour it is first split (separated) into four colours; Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and blacK (CMYK). When these colours are combined in differing concentrations of tiny dots on a printing press, they can reproduce ALL the colours required in the document. Similar to that of a computer monitor or TV screen which uses a combination of Red Green and Blue (RGB) dots to make just about any colour.
Electronic images (tiff, jpegs etc) need to have their colour reference set to complement their final purpose. For example, an image on a website only needs to look good on a computer monitor, therefore it will be set to use an RGB colour space. An image which is to be printed needs to use CMYK to reproduce effectively on paper. RGB images will still print, but they loose their colour intensity and contrast.
If you have an RGB image you would like to use in your artwork before using it you will need to convert it to CMYK using your image editing software - please refer to your software's help facility for guidance. If you do not have any image editing software please contact us.
