Based in Harrogate, Yorkshire, Platinum was founded by David and Marina Wywill in 1988, and has seen a steady growth over the past 22 years to become the £2.5million turnover print service provider it is today. Platinum employs 26 people on its 18,000 sq ft site and has a range of accounts which include Bettys and Taylors bakery, Superbreak Holidays and Leeds Grand Theatre.
The company prides itself on its exceptional customer service, for which it is renowned, due to its ability to offer high quality print, short turnaround times and competitive prices. As a result, Platinum places a heavy emphasis on not only developing its employees, but also ensuring effective production practices and quality controls. This includes achieving the ISO 9001-2000 quality management standard, gaining Pantone accredited status in 2007 and working at a high standard to minimise its environmental impact. Once again Platinum have stamped their intent on the market by introducing Fuji remote proofing to its customers. This new software allows clients to upload artwork directly into the pre-press workflow, with automatic pre-flight, live annotation and many advanced approval features.
Platinum’s Production Director Mark Plummer stated: “We are very excited to launch this new system which opens up a vast array of possibilities for Platinum and its clients, once again endorsing our commitment to ground-breaking advances in the printing industry.“
Managing Director David Wyvill also commented: “We have already rolled the new system out to a number of clients and received extremely positive feedback in terms of the speed improvement and flexibility it now gives. It shows our commitment to advances in technology and ties in neatly with the web2print system which we already operate.“
This new investment is the just the latest in a series of developments for the company which has seen, this year alone, a spend of over £250k on the purchase of a new digital press – the Ricoh C901 – a Grutzmacher mail processor and the employment of three new members of staff.
“Our aim is to keep one step ahead of the competition and offer our customers a reliable, speedy and accurate turnaround on their projects – this latest set of investments allows us to do just that” added David.
We recently completed the fourth stage of a Christmas campaign for a national client. Producing point of sale posters, window vinyls, lightbox posters, hinged promotion cards, wrapping paper, self cling vinyl baubles and even individually cut out snowflakes.
This involved production at almost 24/7 with packaging and despatch of well over 43000 items making over 1400 parcels. “We know we have a very efficient operation and this new challenge of high volume short turnaround point of sale just goes to show how quickly the team can react” – The new Mimaki once again the perfect choice as the digital business continues to grow.

Platinum are pleased to announce the arrival of a twin…
Although non-Identical, we now have a second Mimaki wide format printer, this time a CJV30. Our existing JV33 was running extremely well although largely at capacity (nice problem to have !) – it’s newly commissioned twin was up and running in a day and comes complete with in-line pattern cutting and roll to roll feeding – automation on these machines is helping to create almost 24hr a day production.
Production Director Mark Plummer explains the company’s decision on it’s latest purchase: “The consistency and reliability of Mimaki along with their fantastic range of products and support made this an easy choice for Platinum – the fact it was installed and producing live work within a day confirms it was the right decision for our current set up”.
The installation of this second machine is a strong indication of the further investment that Platinum continues to make as it moves forward into expanding digital markets and increase its portfolio of work and blue chip clients.

Managing director David Wyvill said he had been looking to boost the £2.8m turnover firm’s digital capabilities for 12 months, with the company beginning its search at last year’s Ipex.
“We’ve looked at everything from the Indigos and Nexpresses and Igens, but out shortlist was whittled down to the Ricoh, Canon imagePress and Konica Minolta Bizhub Pro. Continue Reading →
Consistency of brand, quality, pricing and ease of use are a few of the reasons that attracted Herbert Brown, Jewellers and Pawnbrokers to Platinum Web2Print. With 42 branches all ordering point of sale and other printed items through the web2print system it makes life a whole lot easier for branch purchasing and also improves efficiency and lead times. One of Platinums largest web2print projects to date this went live recently, we are already adding new items to the portfolio as the flexibility and ease of use opens new avenues when ordering personalised and static printed goods.

Understanding the need for Bleed and a Safe Zone is important if, as partners, we are going to achieve our joint aim of an excellent finished print job. We require Bleed to allow for the tolerance of our guillotines (the machine used for cutting your job after printing).
