With social media becoming an increasingly popular medium of communication, Rob Fletcher investigates how your company can follow the trend and link in with others to help improve profits.
Has your company ever trended? Do you know how many likes you have? If you do not understand these terms, then it may be that your company is not using social media to its full extent.
Websites such as Twitter and Facebook are often not associated with business, but it seems that as we move further into the digital age, more companies are discovering how valuable it can in helping create profit. Millions of potential customers are already using the service all over the globe, leaving you just a few clicks away from interacting with them. And the best thing about them—they are all free to use. With so many businesses already taking full advantage of social media, why should you not also make the move into the interactive market place?

Harrogate based print firm Platinum Print adopted Storefront resulting in a 15% increase in turnover with 2 million items ordered online.
Once again Platinum have stamped their intent on the market by introducing Fuji remote proofing to its customers. This new software allows clients to upload artwork directly into the pre-press workflow, with automatic pre-flight, live annotation and many advanced approval features.
Platinum’s Production Director Mark Plummer stated: “We are very excited to launch this new system which opens up a vast array of possibilities for Platinum and its clients, once again endorsing our commitment to ground-breaking advances in the printing industry.“
Managing Director David Wyvill also commented: “We have already rolled the new system out to a number of clients and received extremely positive feedback in terms of the speed improvement and flexibility it now gives. It shows our commitment to advances in technology and ties in neatly with the web2print system which we already operate.“
This new investment is the just the latest in a series of developments for the company which has seen, this year alone, a spend of over £250k on the purchase of a new digital press – the Ricoh C901 – a Grutzmacher mail processor and the employment of three new members of staff.
“Our aim is to keep one step ahead of the competition and offer our customers a reliable, speedy and accurate turnaround on their projects – this latest set of investments allows us to do just that” added David.
Platinum are pleased to announce the arrival of a twin…
Although non-Identical, we now have a second Mimaki wide format printer, this time a CJV30. Our existing JV33 was running extremely well although largely at capacity (nice problem to have !) – it’s newly commissioned twin was up and running in a day and comes complete with in-line pattern cutting and roll to roll feeding – automation on these machines is helping to create almost 24hr a day production.
Production Director Mark Plummer explains the company’s decision on it’s latest purchase: “The consistency and reliability of Mimaki along with their fantastic range of products and support made this an easy choice for Platinum – the fact it was installed and producing live work within a day confirms it was the right decision for our current set up”.
The installation of this second machine is a strong indication of the further investment that Platinum continues to make as it moves forward into expanding digital markets and increase its portfolio of work and blue chip clients.
Using a brand new product to Platinum, we have just completed our entrance hallway using a textured digital wallpaper. I hope you will agree this allows maximum impact on client visits, perfect for shops, reception areas or meeting rooms. This fantastic product also lends itself well to open office spaces – enabling imagery to brighten up a plain wall.
Dont worry, help is at hand – using this website: http://whatisfont.com/ you can simply scan your item, upload it and let this FREE site tell you the fonts used. Some of Royal Mail’s customers have talked to them about both their intention to do this and the timescales in which printing was due to start. They listened to the comments and, as a result, chose to take some additional time to consider their plans for the introduction of the Royal Mail mark. This included providing a longer period of time than initially advised, before implementing any changes.
To confirm, the Royal Mail will not now be deploying the application of this new mark from mid-September.
Royal Mail’s postmen and women do a fantastic job delivering mail to 29 million addresses across the UK six days a week. In recognition of their dedication, Royal Mail will start applying a mark on all UK machine sorted letters to ensure their people get the acknowledgement that they deserve. From the middle of September all machineable mail will feature the mark: ‘Delivered by Royal Mail’.
Platinum are pleased to announce the arrival of our new state-of-the-art online proofing and artwork submission system.
Production Director, Mark Plummer said “we are very excited to launch the new system. It opens up a vast array of possibilities for Platinum and its client base and once again enforces our commitment to new technology.”
Platinum client Keycare was responsible for raising £2044.23 for Martin House. This was achieved by a number of volunteers of the Keycare team dressing as pirates and hosting a range of games at the White Rose Centre in Leeds. There was a children’s treasure chest full of goodies, a tombola for the adults and a ‘play your cards right’ game.
Along with Keycare there were a number of other companies there over a two week period and the aim was to raise as much money as possible, Keycare were the eventual winners of this challenge and Platinum were more than happy to design and print a huge cheque on our large format printer for presentation.

Consistency of brand, quality, pricing and ease of use are a few of the reasons that attracted Herbert Brown, Jewellers and Pawnbrokers to Platinum Web2Print. With 42 branches all ordering point of sale and other printed items through the web2print system it makes life a whole lot easier for branch purchasing and also improves efficiency and lead times. One of Platinums largest web2print projects to date this went live recently, we are already adding new items to the portfolio as the flexibility and ease of use opens new avenues when ordering personalised and static printed goods.

Understanding the need for Bleed and a Safe Zone is important if, as partners, we are going to achieve our joint aim of an excellent finished print job. We require Bleed to allow for the tolerance of our guillotines (the machine used for cutting your job after printing). Even with our state of the art equipment there is a margin of error with the operation.
